1. When should I bring in the design team to the Project?
The earlier the better. The very best projects with the smoothest transitions from architecture, to interior design, to building, to install day are the ones where the team is assembled early and right from the very beginning. You can avoid costly changes by doing this and will find the process from start to finish much smoother with a team assembled early on in the process.
2. How long does a full service design project take?
This will vary depending on the scope of the project, but I will say that we find clients highly underestimate the time needed to complete a project. A main floor gut could take you 6 months all the way up to planning a new build which could take anywhere from 2-4 years from the first phone call to putting your toothbrush in that holder.
3. How far in advance do I need to book in my project to start the design concept phase of the project?
This all depends on our workload at the time but typically booking us 6 months before you wish to begin the design phase of the project is enough.
4. What interior design style do you specialize in?
At MBD we pride ourselves in being chameleons. Nothing excites us more than a new design challenge or style that we haven't tackled yet. Have a look at our design portfolio and you will see a wide range of styles all pulled together with that signature MBD Flare. Our philosophy is to get in your head and bring your vision to life versus implementing our own design style in your home. It's always a collaboration but do we have some signature moves? Sure, we do.
5. How do I know what service is right for me?
Take a look at the scope of your project and decide how much help you need. Do you just need a little advice to get you past where you are stuck? Is it just a paint colour, a pillow refresh, and a new furniture layout needed? A virtual consultation may be right for you. Are you a savvy online shoppers who wants to go room by room and implement the design plan on your time? E-design is likely the service for you. Is the scope of your project large? A new build or full scale renovation? then you will need the full design service. Kitchens, bathrooms, custom millwork and styling are too complex to complete over a Virtual Consultation or E-design.
6. Do you take on clients outside of your local area?
Our main focus is in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) but we love going to Cottage country as well. We've recently completed our first Project in the USA. Basically we will go most places if the project and client is the right fit.
7. How do I start to budget for my Project?
This will again completely depend on your scope of work but I always say Main floor guts start around $250k and go up from there. New build projects start around $450/sq. ft and again go up from there depending on your level of finishing. These prices are starting points and your project will need to be discussed in detail to get an more accurate read on Budget forecasting
