Happy December, everyone! It’s time to dig out the Chapstick, Kerri lotion, and anti-static spray. Boy, don’t you love our Canadian winters? I know I do… (insert extra-large eye roll). The holidays and snow approaching (very quickly might I add) we know that means two things. One, we are going to be stuck inside for the next few months. It's so hard to say goodbye to those sunny mornings with a cup of coffee on the porch before the kids wake up, y’all know what I’m talking about, and two, holiday decorating is inevitable, so how about we switch it up a little,  like everything else this year.

This year feels like the perfect time for some great DIY ornaments. This is exactly what you need to keep everyone busy and think in 20 years when you are putting those handmade decorations up on the tree, you’ll be telling the story of the pandemic of 2020, that’s some good content you’ll have for future grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces or nephews.

Hopefully, we will be able to look back on this very humbling experience and remember how it brought families and communities closer and gave you the time to slow down or speed up in your life. I think we can all say many lessons have been and are still being learned this year.
So, now that we have you convinced that you need to make your own handmade holiday ornaments, and you’re super excited about it, we can take you step by step on how to make these 3 very simple ornaments that will make whatever you are decorating feel that much more special.

Let's start easy, this simple ornament can be customized to whatever your colour scheme is, or whatever colours you are diggin' the most this season. Obviously, blush was and will always be our top pick!

You will need:

Clear plastic or glass ornaments (Michaels)
Extra hold hair spray
Your choice of glitter
-Remove the top off of your ornament, spray the hairspray into the ornament roll the liquid around to all of the sides where you want your glitter to stick, in our case we did the whole thing

-Set the ornament upside down and wait for 2-3 minutes for the spray to become tacky.

-Use a funnel to dump your glitter into the ornament.

-Roll the glitter around until all the parts are covered that you want and dump the access out.

-Put the top back on, and voila, no need for drying time as the hairspray dries super speedy!
Next up, for a more boho-inspired tassel ornament. This one was one of our favourites. They are beyond easy to make and you can get the supplies pretty much anywhere!

You will need:

Yarn of your choice
Wooden beads (medium and small)
Scissors
Cardboard
-First, cut your cardboard into a rectangle about 5” x 4” and then cut 2 slits towards the ends on the shorter side about a 1/2" deep

-Cut a piece of yarn about 6” and slip it through the slits you created on the carboard so that the yarn lays across the top.

-Now take the rest of your yarn, hold it with your thumb and start winding around your cardboard. We went around 30 times for each tassel, if you want them fuller go 40, if you want them a little more thinned out go 20.

-Once you’ve gone around your desired times cut the string off. Now you are going to take your top sting and unhook it from the slits and tie it in a double knot at the top so the yarn is being pressed together.

-Pull your tassel off of your cardboard. Cut the looped bottoms.

-Take another 6” string and go about 1/2” from the top knot, now you are going to tie it around the tassels in a double knot.

-Now feed the larger bead and then the smaller bead on top, create a knot to secure them on.
There you have it, a whimsical boho-inspired tassel ornament!!
Now for the easiest little DIY that makes your tree or garland look so adorable.

A bow. Bows are a great filler on the Christmas tree, they are the tinsel of the 2000s. You can get so creative with size, colour, and texture. Also, you can do them yearly, pick something that goes great with your décor that year, and the next year can switch it to another colour. Pro tip Reuse the bows from the first year for your wrapping, no need to buy a whole bunch more when you already have hand-made ones!

You will need:

Ribbon of all shapes colours and sizes
Scissors
Hot glue gun
-Take a 10” piece of your ribbon, fold the 2 ends into the middle and allow the extra to hang down.

-Take a 2” piece of ribbon and fold it in half to create your middle piece.

-Glue it in the back and then wrap it all the way around to singe the bow together and glue it again in the back.

-Take some scissors and cut the ends on an angle to create a finished look.

Spread it out and there you have it!
Here is how our little DIY office moment turned out. We are pretty happy with the way all of the decor is jiving together with the rest of the space!

Okay so, you’re super-duper busy, you have NO time to make your own ornaments, that okay... We don’t judge. In this case here are a few of our favorite décor items for this holiday season. Let’s get a little jazzy and add some holiday cheer to your space!

There you have it! You are all set for festivities (if we are even going to call them that this year!!) with your handmade cool and modern decor. It's going to look great!
