Holy heck it's been a while. Time really slipped away from us last month. You know those times when you have every intention of getting something done, have the time slot planned out and everything.. and then it comes….. And then it goes…. And it's kind of like wellllllll we will try again next month. Yes, that's sort of what happened to our newsletter for August. Nevertheless. We are here to get down to business.

A quick hello and goodbye to summer, although this one looked different, we hope everyone enjoyed the past couple of months of fab weather, cool drinks, distanced dinners, chatter and laughter.

This month we thought we would do a little combo newsletter. We are hittin ya with a few MBD updates because it seems like everything is constantly changing around here, and we will do one of everyone's favorite types of newsletters. The reveals but with some before and afters. What is it about before and after photos we can't get enough of? It doesn't even matter what it is.. A dog haircut, or fitness transformation, they are all just as satisfying, am I right?

Let's dive in.

Things have been insane here at MBD (which is actually a great thing that we are all super thankful for). We are currently working from our new office which

A) has been lovely to all be together for collaborating, organizing our weeks and being all on the same page and

B) to get out of the house and have SOME normallasy to our days.

So construction is still underway, we are so close we can taste it. We are still waiting on a few key details and we are COOKIN’ over here literally and figuratively. With all of the craziness going on we have decided it is time to expand once again.

Everyone meet Victoria. She is a fabulous designer coming out of school with a background in interior decorating and kitchen and bath design, we are super excited to have her join our MBD family.

"I am so excited to be doing what I love in a team as fun and supportive as MBD! I can't wait to see what designs await me!"

Moving onto our project Jennifer 2.0. We teamed up with the amazing Alair Homes Aurora-Newmarket crew to tackle this one!

This project consisted of a full interior overhaul, we expanded this home by adding an addition above the 3 car garage to create a spacious master suite complete with a laundry room, 3 piece ensuite and walk-in closet. On the main floor we did a hefty addition outback to create a large great room with a vaulted ceiling. These additions made a huge impact on this home's square footage. We also decided to rejig the rest of the home by adding a mudroom and moving the kitchen so we were able to fit a custom kitchen with an optimal layout for our clients' busy family.

We will start with a classic stair transformation. We painted the stairs and hand railing a custom black colour and finished them off with a new sleek and simple stair runner to create a bit of interest and of course slip resistance. We’ve all gone down a set of wood stairs without a runner… Terrifying.

Let's bring on the games room, a bold trim wall is featured in this room natural light floods this room to create a place to hangout but wait.. This actually used to be the existing kitchen. What a transformation.

I know it's hard to picture, but yes, part of this living has turned into the mud room. Custom ink blue millwork was designed like cubbies for all of the little jackets, shoes, mittens and hats. On the other side sits a bench and some beautiful cabinetry to act as the catch all for this home.

So here is the other side of the mud room, we wanted our clients to be able to shift right into the kitchen. We all have those struggles of getting all of the groceries and people in the house at more than a glacial pace.

O.k so you really have to put your imagination caps on for this one. See where that far second island is situated? That is where this photo was taken from. Those X details, overside pennants, inky blue island and custom range hood are the highlights of this space. Can you also see that beauty of a fireplace peaking out in the background? She's a pretty one.

Here's a detail shot for you to really see that blue colour we did on the island!

A glance at  the other side of the kitchen where you can see our clients custom bar area and pantry with carrying over that “X” detail and the mudroom catch all area in the background. When it comes to designing a kitchen scale is so important, because of the size of this kitchen we selected a simple oversized pendant light that pulled everything together in this space.

A  2 story shiplap fireplace is the focal point in this home's great room, so we decided to contrast the white with a black herringbone tile to bring it all together. We finished it off with a sleek mantle stained to match the flooring that is seen throughout.

That same herringbone mosaic tile was splashed into this main floor powder room to create a flow through the first floor of this home. A custom vanity made by Hartley built adds a cool factor with a metal base created to complete this statement area.

Yes, the master bathroom. There are no before and after photos of this space because it is brand spanking new. This was part of the addition we did for our clients. Clean, sleek and simple. A perfect spot to start or end your day!!

Here we are in the back yard, you can see on the left side of the photo the peaked roof of the new great room addition. Cudos to the team at Custom CaDD inc. for the incredible architecture. This whole home was outfitted with brand new ink blue siding, a brand new patio and a pool face lift, this is the perfect place for this young family to spend their days!

We hope you guys enjoyed flipping through one of our most recently completed projects, whether you are drinking your morning coffee, having a mid day brain break, or sitting on the couch after a long day we alway appreciate you guys coming around and providing feedback on our newsletters. Our clients and followers mean the world to MBD and we can't thank you all enough for sticking with us through these hard times we are facing.

Happy September,
