Hello everyone, it’s that time of the month again! We are hoping you are all enjoying the beautiful weather, sunny days, and blissful breezy evenings. We are trying to soak up everything summer has to offer.

We have a few "housekeeping" updates for y'all. First, we have recently welcomed a fifth team member to our Michelle Berwick Design family. Let us introduce you to Ayla! Ayla comes to MBD with a background in interior decorating and has previous experience in the interior design field. She is certainly the missing puzzle piece that the team has been needing! We are all excited to have her on board.

"I'm so excited to join the team here at Michelle Berwick Design. I can't wait to start creating some magic alongside this group of very talented ladies"
Secondly, a few weeks back we thought it was time for an update to our headshots. We decided we wanted our headshots to reflect who we are as a company. Focused, fun, and badass. We think the photographer nailed it. What do you guys think?

In other news, we have a project list that we are absolutely PUMPED about. A few brand new custom builds that are going to be out of this world (picture this... dusty pink mudroom cabinetry, outdoor showers, kids playroom loft, an incredible 7 foot gold range hood, custom lighting galore, and so much more). We are also currently working on two commercial projects for some super rad clients, and residential projects that we are packing with functionality and personality. We are looking forward to when we can start our big reveals and show you all of the amazing details going into each and every project!

This month we thought it would be fun to do a little tips and tricks newsletter on how to revamp your principal suite. We know everyone has been spending a lot of quality time with the family, and by quality time, we mean having the kids or pets glued to you 24/7, or just having a lack of personal space around the home in general. If not the first 2, maybe you have just had way more time on your hands to look at all of the things that don't necessarily bring you joy in your space. We are here to guide you in creating the perfect place to enjoy and make your very own.

Rugs

The rug is the game-changer, we promise. It doesn’t even need to be fancy (although you can go right ahead and get fancy, we love being fancy). It can even be as simple as a natural jute rug. "What if I have wall-to-wall carpet?" No problem! We would still suggest layering a rug on top. It will completely change the feeling of your space and give it a more finished-off look. Not to mention they are a great way to incorporate some colour that can easily be switched out as trend seasons come can go. Here are a few of our favorite looks!

Ditch the set

Okay, so we know that purchasing the set... you know, the dresser, nightstands, and bed all together was all of the rage. There's is no shame in that game. We just think the set could look cooler if you change it up a little bit. You can swap out the nightstands for something a little bit different that still fits your vibe, or you can even paint them. A putty, or black will always serve you well, but we also aren’t opposed to mixing in a little colour. Perhaps a navy? Maybe a green? All we know is breaking up the set will give your space a more mature and curated look.

Lighting

You will never know the power of ditching the boob light until you do it. You know the one that looks like well... a boob. Switch your old flush mount to something a little bit larger, with clean and sleek lines. It’s not a huge undertaking, but will make a huge difference!
Bedding

Switch up the bedding to something neutral, fresh, and light. It will be like a breath of fresh air! Solid white or a natural linen colour pairs perfectly with all of your other upgrades!

Pillows

We love pillows. The trend we are seeing is a much more pared-down approach. One large lumbar pillow does it for us! This will save you doing the whole throw 10 pillows on the floor before crawling into bed routine. Also, not having so many pillows on the floor makes that midnight shuffle to the bathroom less treacherous. It really is a win-win.

Accent walls

We are always up for a good accent wall. Behind the headboard is the perfect place to add texture, interest, and colour. Whether it be wallpaper, trim, or painting a sold colour, this feature will
add a new sense of style to your space.

Drapes

Switch 'em up. Throw on some fresh white panels. Just do it. That is all. Thank you.

Our very last tip is to plan it out! Get together all of the items you will need to transform your space before you start so that you can complete your project in one fell swoop. There is NOTHING better than that initial transformation reveal. It just feels good.

We hope you can all take some inspiration and turn all of your spaces into your very own sanctuary! You deserve it!
